The Battle System

What is the Battle System?

The Battle System is essentially a single elimination tournament system to determine the winner of each competitive freestyle division.

How does it work?

Competitors will be issued a number upon registration and numbers will be randomly placed into tournament brackets. Don't worry if you don't remember your number. Names will be placed into the official brackets.

Each individual battle in each round will consist of 2 players performing 3 alternating heats. The length of the heat will get progressively longer as the tournament progresses. For example, all heats in the first round may be 30 seconds, then 45 in the second round, then 1 minute, and so on.

Each heat will be judged in the same manner that a typical freestyle would be judged, which is explained in the Freestyle Rules page. After all three heats the total positive and negative points will be tallied and the winner of the battle will be determined and advanced to the next round.

Music during the battles leading up to the finals will not be chosen by the competitors to level the playing field and to make the performances "true freestyles".

The Battles will continue until 4 competitors remain. The Battle for 1st and 3rd places will consist of 3 minute freestyles to music of the competitors choosing.

During my heat how do I know it is my turn?

When the current competitor's time is up and it is time for the alternating competitor to start we will signal by either a significant change in the music or some other obvious signal(to be determined).

Is all of the music provided?

All of the music is provided for all rounds leading to the final round battle for 1st and 3rd places. Competitors should still choose music(3 minutes) and practice a final freestyle in the event they progress to that level.
